About the instructors

Waldo Malan

Waldo Malan loves music. Because of this love he has been involved on all levels of music since he was a child. His interest in music led him to the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, of which he was a member from age 9 through 15. While there he not only toured the world, but sang and started composition lessons in serialism with the Australian composer David Worrall at age 11. Incidentally, this was also the year in which he started with his piano studies. After matriculating at a co-ed, pro-rugby school on the Witwatersrand, he continued his musical studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

It was here that he was to remain from 1983 until 1997, reading for his Bachelor and Master degrees, ending up in the School of Music as a lecturer in composition, jazz piano studies and vocal coaching. He completed his Doctorate in Music Composition in 2001.

Since the beginning of 1998 he has been with River Ministries in various roles and functions. He is currently the Media Director for The River Group where much of his efforts are focused on the a global satellite and digital television operations. As and when time allows he continues to be actively involved in performing, musical direction, arranging, music curriculum development, composition and leading worship.

Linda Videler

Linda was born in Rotterdam, Holland where she finished High School. At the age of 21 she got married to Bert and in that very same year immigrated to South Africa.

In 1976 Linda accepted Christ in her life. She completed numerous Bible base courses and eventually with Bert uprooted from Pretoria to join a Christian Community life in the Western Cape. God then called Bert and Linda to pioneer a Mission Church in Stormsvlei, this was  amongst the farm labourers on the wine route. Here they saw how God by His love took whole families out of the dungeon and placed them with princes. In the year 1996 they even experienced a major revival in their church and in communities around them

The call came in 2000 to join River Ministries, where we are now shepherding pastors and running the intercession department.

After almost 40 years in ministry, it is still my strong passion to see God's people free from any bondage and walk in all the freedom, health, wholeness, prosperity and purpose God has promised us.

They raised two boys. Our oldest Ron is now in full-time ministry and runs the education division here at River Ministries, and our other son Edwin, runs a successful lung practice in Cape Town. They have five grandchildren.

Bert Videler

Bert was born in Rotterdam, Holland.  After completing High School and serving in the Dutch air force he had a desire to immigrate to South Africa. This he did soon after getting married to Linda. He started work in 1968 at Atlas Aircraft Corporation in Gauteng.

In 1976 his wife Linda accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour, and this messed his life up a bit. Not long afterward he too accepted Jesus into his live. With absolute commitment they surrender everything to Him, and said they would pay whatever cost to serve God. Bert and Linda ended up pioneering a Mission Church in Stormsvlei, this was amongst the farm labourers on a wine route. Here they saw how God by His love took whole families out of drunkenness, meaningless lives and transforming them into successful individuals. In the year 1996 they even experienced a major revival in the community. Farmers and farm labourers worshipping God under one roof, school teachers and students sitting under a tree on campus, weeping as the presence touched them all.

River Ministries asked them to relocate to East London in the year 2000 where they are still serving as shepherding pastors.

After 50 odd years of marriage, and almost 40 years in full time ministry, it is still Bert’s desire to see another outpouring on this planet.

Bert and Linda raised two boys. The oldest Ron, is now in full-time ministry and runs the education division in the same Ministry where they are at. Their other son Edwin, runs a successful lung practice in Cape Town. They are oupa and ouma of 5 grandchildren.

And in her own words: "I am the proud wife of Kevin Davis and privileged to carry the title of 'Mom' to our four energetic boys."

She has an absolute passion for helping people discover their true purpose and identity in Christ. She loves to see  people set up for success and become Kingdom ambassadors while they have an opportunity to live for the King. Authenticity and Integrity is her motto.

She believe in Covenant of marriage and is zealous about the restoration of ancient ruins, pertaining to family matters. There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone discover the treasure within them, once they grab a hold of the freedom from sin and bondage which is found in Christ.

Ron Videler

Ron had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home and by the age of 7 gave his life to Jesus Christ. He was Holy Spirit filled, and water baptized by the age of 8. His parents, Bert and Linda went into full time ministry while he was still a teenager, and it was actually in one of their church services where he knew he would go into full-time ministry one day.

Ron matriculated in 1989.  He studied Electrical Engineering (light current) at the University of Technology Cape Town. After completing his degree he worked in the medical field installing, training & repairing HIV, pregnancy and decease-testing equipment all over South Africa. During this time he also completed 2 years of Bible School, which eventually propelled him to get his Masters of Christian Education in 2013.

In March 1998, Ron got married to Natasha whom he met through Bible school. 2 years later they answered the call of God to join the River Group in East London, South Africa, incorporating River Ministries and Faith Broadcasting Network as pastors. They served as pastors with many different responsibilities, including the developing of an evening Bible school and later the three year full-time degreed Bible School.

Ron’s passion to equip people has led him to become director of education.

Ron and Natasha have three boys, Reuel, Ronan and the youngest Raphael. He is a family man and loves playing squash with his boys.  Reuel has represented South Africa in squash and the other two boys their province at some point.
